Hebrew Tabernacle of Washington Heights presents Uptown Images, a digital gallery showcasing the work of Northern Manhattan visual artists. Through the filters of their diverse backgrounds, the nineteen artists in the gallery depict life in Washington Heights and Inwood using different media and a variety of techniques and styles. We asked the artists to comment on their own work, share how they created it, and reflect on their individual experiences of Uptown.

Washington Heights and Inwood, adjacent neighborhoods on the Northern tip of Manhattan, have a rich and evolving history. They boast world-famous urban attractions, a distinctive natural beauty, busy avenues and quiet streets. They are home to people of many races, ethnicities, faiths, and languages, who come together as a vibrant growing community. Our many local organizations and initiatives add a strong voice to the movement for social justice and a visible presence to the cultural life of New York City.

Welcome Uptown!
